The first Project CARS eSports events of 2016 are underway! The ESL Go4 Cups continue every Sunday as always and we’re racing the openwheel Formula Gulf 1000 once again in January. The month’s first cup took the drivers to the demanding Circuit Zolder in Belgium, a track with plenty of steep elevation change, fast blind corners and tricky chicanes. It’s a place that demands a lot of concentration, despite its relatively short lap distance. The drivers are pretty familiar now with the Formula Gulf machine after racing it throughout December, so it was time to put that experience into practice in Cup 14 and prove their pace.
As always, the drivers were competing for a €150 prize fund, and the chance to collect some all important championship points. At the end of the month, the top 8 drivers with the most points on each platform; PC, PS4 & XB1, will be invited to compete in the January ESL Finals for another €450!
Team Shark Racing’s Atho grabbed the checkered flag on PS4 this week with the sort of commanding drive thatwe’ve come to expect from one of the top drivers in all of Project CARS simracing. It was anything but an easy victory though. Atho once again had to battle with fellow countryman, DriverR1, though this time they met much earlier in the bracket than usual, in the quarterfinal, with Atho coming out on top. By going on to win Cup 14, Atho has given himself a big early advantage and a great start to January. Congratulations also go to DrDrDD from Germany who returned to the podium after a difficult few weeks to reaffirm his place amongst the Project CARS elite on PS4. We were also thrilled to see more British drivers taking on part on PS4 this week, with two Brits making it into the top four places, including matty234 reaching the podium in third. It’s nice to see more drivers from our home nation doing well and long may it continue! | It was a fantastic display by SDL Motorsport which caught the eye on Xbox One in Cup 14, with SDL SoniK and SDL Rotax taking the top two positions. Like TSRacing_Atho, SoniK has been one of the leading Project CARS eSports drivers ever since the game was first released. From the Driver Network Championship, to live events like Gamescom and now the ESL Cups. We also saw a great performance from Spanish driver, rubio77 who returns to the podium, beating seasoned competitors like team Starlux’s PSY2PAC along the way. Starlux and SDL both ran several cars this week and we're looking forward to seeing them battle it out regularly in the future! | It wasn’t just Xbox where SDL Motorsport dominated this week. The team has stepped up its game in the PC cups too, taking a onetwo finish this week with SDL Tuscan leading home SDL Mangator. Robinjohansson in third is our first ever Swedish podium finisher, showing that despite the big teams improving, it’s still possible for upand-coming talent to excel in the ESL Go4 Cups! |
