TEAM SHARK RACING

Picture
The competition in the SMS-R Driver Network Championship is hotting up as we approach the latter part of the incredible first 2015 season.

To celebrate the remarkable achievements of the teams and drivers, we bring you the first in a series of features where we find out more about what motivates some of the world’s fastest pro racers.

Meet Anthony Fernandes, Team Manager of Team Shark Racing, currently 2nd in the Championship Standings and leading the Power Rankings...

How and when did you first get interested in sim racing?
Some of us inherited our passion from our parents in our earliest days. For example, Racer started driving simulations at 5 years old and Mpia’s father is a race driver too. Others were practicing real driving like karting and discovered sim racing later, often through Gran Turismo.

Which racing games did you play before Project CARS?
  • Super Monaco Grand Prix and Super Hang-on on the SEGA Mega Drive
  • On the PC; Monaco Grand Prix Simulation 2, F1 Racing Championship, F1 2001, 2002 & 2003 and GTR
  • Gran Turismo 1 & 2, V-Rally and Formula One on the first PlayStation
  • Gran Turismo 3 & 4 on PS2
  • Gran Turismo 5 & 6 on PS3
How do you prepare for each round of the SMS-R Driver Network Championship?
We use the same method each round. To begin, every driver starts running by themselves, then after a few days we discuss our best laps and compare setups. The aim is to find a balanced setup for the fastest lap. On Mondays, the last day of each round, we have another discussion to decide if there is anything else to we can improve after the weekend’s racing.

Why did you choose Project CARS for your current-gen competitive racing?
As a team, we chose Project CARS because it represents everything that we expected from a good driving simulation on Playstation 4.
We like many things about Project CARS, but if we had to choose a favourite, it would be definitely be Slightly Mad Studio’s resolution to push the gamers onto the stage, like it did at Gamescom where two of our team raced in front of a spectating crowd.

Who tunes the cars for your team? Do you work on setups together?
We want each of our drivers to gets their hands dirty, in a virtual way of course! However, some are better than others at setting up the car, but each of us contributes in our own way to help. We are a really unified team and work together.

How do you keep the team motivated?
Right now, we use social networks to communicate. We have mutual objectives to reach together and that keeps our motivation intact. We are working on our website as well, which will be online soon. It’s a real joy for us. Our shared passion keeps us motivated.

Do you think that your team has a chance to win the Championship and what would it mean to you?
Of course! It was our original goal and we’ll do everything we can to accomplish it.
It would be a big reward because we had some issues at the beginning, but we have been able to bounce back and take matters into our hands. We’d be so happy to finish on the first step. It would be the most valuable reward for our amazing teamwork.

Have you raced any cars in real life?
Some of our teammates; Atho, Yinato, Racer and Silex95 participated in several national and European finals of the GT Academy through Gran Turismo. They got the opportunity to drive on real circuits in cars like the Nissan 370Z Nismo, Nissan GT-R and single-seater cars. Right now Yinato is participating in the Sodi World Series, an international karting championship.
