ESL Go4 Cup #19 Results

2/9/2016

The February ESL Go4 Cups are now underway, with a new car class and plenty of new faces joining the action, including arguably the world’s biggest sim-racing outfit, the “aliens” of Fanatec-sponsored Team Redline.

GT4 is the new car class for February after being winning a fan vote in the ESL forums. It’s the first time that this class has been used in the Go4 Cups and it presents a very different challenge for the drivers. There are several cars on offer in the class including:

- Aston Martin Rapide S Hydrogen
- Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4
- BMW M3 GT4
- Ford Mustang Boss 302R1
- Ginetta G55 GT4

Compared to the open wheel FG1000 used in the last two months, these cars are much heavier and can’t carry as much speed into the corners. Therefore it’s incredibly important that the drivers manage the car's’ weight transfer carefully, to maximise their angle of attack into each bend.
Cup 19 took the drivers to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California, home of the infamous Corkscrew chicane and some incredibly steep elevation changes. This definitely threw our racers in at the deep end with a brand new car class, but we still saw some awesome driving throughout all of the races.
As always, drivers were competing for a €150 prize fund - split into three €50 prizes, one for the winner on each platform. At the end of February, the top 8 drivers on each platform will be invited to race in the February Final for an additional prize fund of €450!

DriverR1 starts February back on top of the pile, after several difficult weeks behind some of the new faces who have joined the ESL Project CARS scene recently. Germany’s VP_Darwin_Daume came home with an amazing debut podium in second, proving once again that new talent always has an opportunity to shine in this Fixed Setup racing series. ockerocker came home in third, with another solid podium finish. Team RSP was back this week too with another big roster of drivers vying for points, but it couldn't match last week's podium by RSP_Gonzie24 and only made it to the quarter-finals with any of its drivers. Team Shark Racing also had tough start to February and the GT4 car class. They peaked in the quarter-finals just like RSP, when Racer met his match against regular points scorer, CoTiNhO.

Starlux driver, M power got off to a great start in the GT4 cars, taking another win and proving that he can be quick in just about any kind of car. There was a big shock though as Starlux’s PSY2PAC defected to team RZ! He took a second place on his debut with his team team, so we could be looking at some heated battles between PSY2PAC and his former Starlux teammates in the coming months! Britain’s CQR Magictap, took a fantastic first podium as well, seeing off a raft of highly experienced eSports drivers from SDL, RZ, Starlux & UNITY to claim some big points. This week's Xbox Cup was dominated by these big sim-racing teams, so we're expecting a very high standard of competition throughout February!

The PC Cup grabbed all the headlines this week, as the world's most successful sim-racing team arrived in Project CARS for the first time. Team Redline's Finnish drivers arrived on the scene with an awesome double podium.
Alexsi Ussi-Jaakkola took the win, beating SDL Tuscan who has had total domination of the ESL PC Cups in recent weeks. OlliPahkala came home in third as well. We look set for a big fight between Team Redline and SDL Motorsport. It will be a big competition for their sponsors too. A Fanatec vs Logitech battle is ahead! Top rFactor driver, Bono Huis returned this week too, but lost out in only second round. Hopefully he can up his game and join the fight at the front where he belongs alongside these other top class drivers.

The next ESL Project CARS open tournament is the Go4 Cup #20 on Sunday February 21 with a €150 prize fund!

Go4 events consist of 4 or 5 weekly cups and a monthly final each month. The Cup Series is free and open to everyone and has €50 waiting for the best player on each platform. The weekly cups take place every Sunday and start at 19:00 CEST. All players earn ranking points to qualify for the Monthly Final where the winners on each platform will receive a €150 bonus!

Don’t forget, you can now vote for the circuit you want to race at in the next Go4 Cup. Please visit the ESL Project CARS forums to make your choice!
